I f**king love training....life would be the lesser for me without it

But my main priorities are my kids and Rachael...then probably my job after that (I f**king hate my job, but without it there would be no hols with the kids, training etc.)

Training is very high after the above though

The gift to become the best at a strength sport? That's a toughie..!! But I think I would have to say 'no'. Other areas of life interest me too much and I am much more gifted in some of those already.

Bla bla bla something to do with russia

"if you could receive the gift would you want it?"

Great question, and a hard one to answer.

If the gift was bestowed now it would be a hard decision, with having family, financial comitments etc. I dont know if I would actually be in a position to make the most of it without sacreficing more than I would be willing.

Had it been bestowed 5-10 years ago, hell yes.

I love training and eating and going out on the piss and fortunatley this sport allows me to do it, although I have considerably cut down on boozing - compared to when I plyed rugby - although my priority is defo my career as this allows me to enjoy my chosen sport and have a pretty good life.

I would love ot be the best but I am under no illusion I ever will be, but I will always e better than Adam so that's fine! Grin

I've got 2 major hobbies which take up most of my life

Strongman and DJin/music production

Medicore at both but loving it!

I was similiar to terry.. I was a national schools rugby player and national schools cricket player but lost interest in both when I got injured before a major tournament.. When I had rehabbed I was at uni. Too many distractions there.

After your family and job ever man needs a hobby. Lifting weights is a lot better than some others I could think of!

It's true that as you get older, past university age etc, your perspective inevitably changes. But it'll change again too as you get even older and doing something for your health now is like money in the bank.

Ever since I met my father-in-law he's banged on about how good he thinks it is that I lift weights. He's worked in pharmaceuticals his whole life and made more than a decent bob in doing so. But irony being what it is, he's now older and he struggles with his health and no kind of pharmaceuticals can completely cure old-age. So he wishes he had done more of what I do when he was younger.

So what you're saying is that combining lifting and pharmaceuticals makes you invincible? Sweet.

Great topic!

So having the passion but not "the gift"?

Sam, does this means that your friend thinks if you have "the gift" but not the passion then you should still utilise that gift even if it gives you no enjoyment at all? What a miserable f**king existence that would lead to.

I was a far better BBer than weightlifter (not hard really) however, when I stopped bodybuilding I was beyond sick of having to rule my life around the kitchen and especially the pre-contest dieting and all the restrictions it placed on my life. To carry on doing that just because I was better suited to it than WLing would have driven me CRAZY!

I completely agree that it's only a waste if you look back and regret what you've done. The problem is that hindsight and perspective can completely alter how you feel about something years down the line, making you think that you've wasted your life. When I was enjoying BBing it was great. I loved the training, enjoyed how it made me look, feel, how I could change my body in a matter of weeks etc.

I look back now and think of all the other things I could have done, such as travelling, working abroad etc. Chances are if I hadn't have been in the gym though, I'd have been sat in front of the TV doing f**k all!

Same as JC say with me. I love to train and to compete- PB's are ace but winning is better (or it will be, when I eventually win something Grin)

I put a lot of effort into training, it's more constructive than things i've done in the past and I'll not regret it.

However, who's to know what'll i'll think in 5 years time, things change.
