It would be great for us feathernecks to have an under 75kg strongman comp!

I'd like there to be an u75 bracket, but maybe there aren't enough of us to make it worthwhile. I reckon I'll get myself upto 90kg over the next couple of years if it doesn't happen.

U75 sounds swell i think

75-80kg log
180kg deadlift
80-90kg farmers
200-220 yoke IMO

I think that all that looks on the low side V man. If an average Joe could have a crack at the weights then I don't think it should be called 'strong' man. There are some big lifts from freaks at a light bodyweight.. Kev- 170kg Jerk (and all other lifts insane obviously), Riain- Over 300kg 18" pull, soon to be pulling 260+ from the floor.. etc.

Plus, big weights push people to get better, It would be a shame if a comp was announced where everything was already 'easy' I think, it's nice to have to work for something.

I think Mark was more keen on u80kg anyway after the success of the ANTS anyway but that is for him to decide (if he even fancies putting something like this on again for little f**kers like me and you...).

My take on weights for a proposed u75/u80;

Log- 100+ for reps/max log
DL- 220 if from floor for reps
Farmers- 120kg minimum
Yoke- 240kg+ (over 3x bw at least)

This of course would be for a title that meant something 'BSM for light bas***ds' (or something just as catchy) and not just a 'come and have a go to see if you like SM' sort of thing, that would make a mockery of it national comps were pitched so low.

stupid question of the day: when refering to the farmers walk weight, is that in each hand or alltogether?

I will be running the first Britains Strongest Man Under 80kg next year .. It won't be light though, Very much the opposite ... The Under 80kg test comp was a fantastic standard ..

Weigh-in will be on the day and the prize money fairly good .

I will be running this one at most probably Salford University - Then the plan will be to operate between the good men I work with on the 90kg circuit to move this comp around the regions each year to make it fair..

I have to disagree Paul. I don't see why u75k has to be any different from other categories in that it should allow for people of varying abilities at that bodyweight.

Funnily enough I was watching the new series of 'The Ultimate Fighter' the other night and this time round it's bantam and featerweight fighters going at it.It struck me that in combat sports nobody questions the validity of the lower weight categories and everyone seems able to enjoy it without needing to point out that a heavyweight fighter would tear them a new ar****le.

I just meant that the national comps should be heavy mate. By all means have lighter less important comps going on too, that's a great idea, just not super light final.

Also, good news Cleggy, very exciting times.

Ste Baker, your ass is mine!

(No homo... lol, who am I trying to kid. )
