Nice depth on those squats. Your poor knees look like they have aliens growing inside of them.

He's fought some of the best in his time and had a good standup game for sure. Whether he still has it, we've yet to see.

I'm getting over the man flu. It has flared up my asthma but I felt good to train.
I used to know a young guy called Ross Stark. He had a motto... "Deal wi' it"

SQUATS TECHNIQUE WORK:
3 sets of 6 reps with 90kg
1 set of 6 reps with 95kg
1 set of 6 rigid and flawless slow practice squats with 60 or 80kg. (something I'm working on)

First two sets felt a little poor today though reps 2-5 so I rectified it for the final two sets in a way that I felt very happy. When I watch a guy like Bryan squat it blows me away. His power is at its' best when he's in that deep seated position, leaning back in the squat. I'm in awe of that power and technique which is why I'm working so hard on my technique and depth, even if it means dropping the weight. I want that power out of the hole and the only way to do it is to go "too deep" whilst in that deep seated position. That position doesn't come natural to me so I'm gonna work it and work it until it's my strong point.

SPEED OF DESCENT
I've always repped out incredibly close to my max. People always thought I could lift 20 or 30kg more than I could even at my low numbers. A s&c blog by the renowned european no. 1 bantamweight MMA star Paul McVeigh (who was actually my old teacher, yes I'm name dropping haha) talked about something I'd forgotten a lot about. Different types of strength. It reminded me about people who have slow strength and people who have elastic strength (based upon the stretch reflex/plyometrics) and about the ways in which these strengths work. In athletic and fitness terms, I've always been freaky when it comes to plyometrics. I competed in triple jump, long jump and high jump to a high level for a long time. Whilst I boxed and wrestled, I was always one of the springier guys as whilst in constant motion, you're using that stretch reflex much more capably.
I read up on the subject again and realised that it's why I actually perform better whilst entering a squat at speed instead of slower like a lot of guys do. It's also why I rep. so close to my max in comparison to most other folks. Even though I'm not that strong with regards to powerlifting, I can box jump and bouncing box jump many inches higher than guys I outweight by 10kg who can outsquat me by over 100 kilos. Wee things like this are why I'm interested in strength training. There's so much involved in the subject.

DEADLIFT:

1rm @ 160kg (pretty happy with this considering I've not trained in about 5 months and my max was only 175kg belted before I stopped.)

All in, I'm happy about the session considering I felt pretty unwell doing it.

I was unhappy with the U.K. until I started living outside the rules to an extent. Hope you find your way man.
