I have my first powerlifting comp on May 31. I am only a couple pounds over the weight I plan to compete at. The problem is, I have lost a fair bit of strength on my squat this last couple weeks.

My question is, will I gain back some of this strength if I eat more carbs on training days and cutting back on the cardio?

Any advice will be most welcome. Thanks!

Competition itself helps my strength! When the people are gathered it seems to help. I am not that strong, but I hope it helps brother.

whats about the water stripping thingy that PAGAN and a few other have done.

you could use a CBL type diet to shead the pounds between now and then!

My weights pretty much were need it to be, plan is to eat more calories again on training days and cut out cardio. I read somewhere to drink loads of water on the Monday and half it every day until Friday. On Friday drink as I need to and don't drink anything after 5pm.

Adam, cut carbs but keep calories close to what you was having before. Use fat and fibre instead to make up the difference.

Drink water like it's going out of fashion and keep b vitamins high.
Don't do any rep work, this will stop you depleting your energy reserves.

Are you likely to be in a place to be winning? If not don't undo yourself and keep the weight you are, if your body wants to be heavier to be stronger go for it. I wouldn't ever consider changing weight unless I hit a brick wall. I weighed 95kg a month out from comp, dropped to 90... Was expecting an easy 180 bench and was pinned by my opener, something that I'd done every Monday for a whole year! That's when I decided I'd never do it while I was getting stronger

What time of day do you weigh yourself ? Get a wall chart and weigh yourself every morning when you wake up and every night when you go to bed and see where you sit and how much you fluctuate

What's the plan training wise over the next 3 weeks

The worst thing you can do is let your nerves take over and panic everyone does it my last comp I dropped 4kg in 36 hours and gained 4kg back within 2 hours most guys I know would have stepped on the scales 2 days out weighing 4kg over start to panic like crazy and end up starving and dropping the wrong type of wieght

Don't bother if its your first comp, there are a ton of variables you have to consider when competing so adding weight loss to that is pointless. Eat normally and don't worry about your weight.
Let the organiser know in advance that you may be over the weight limit on the day.

Why not just not get fat in the first place?

That is the biggest problem.

Start eating carbs, stop any cardio and see where your weight and strength is a week out. Then decided.

2-3lbs is very easy to cut for a weigh in and not suffer any negative consequences.

Thanks guys sound advice. Weigh in at 9 and lifting starts at 10 I think. Will eat more fats and maybe eat more carbs on training days. Ate carbs this morning and squats felt better. Thanks again guys.

I'd go for 2-3lbs weight loss the day before as opposed to losing a lot and going in massively dehydrated. Just skip water for 12-18hrs, drop salt and hammer out the electrolytes as soon as you've weighed in early.
