nice one on the Bench PB
AvatarRob
Thanks guys, unfortunately tonight's max out did not go well at all!

21st November

Narrow Grip Bench
20 x 10 x 2
40 x 8
55 x 5
70 x 3
80 x 2
90 x 1
97.5 x 1
105 x f
102.5 x f

Rows
40 x 10 x 3

Plate twists, Leg Raises, Face Pulls

The 105 my right arm brushed my make-shift catchers (trestle tables) and that put paid to that attempt. The 102.5 seemed to be going but then I must have lost the line; the plates went flying off the left hand side then swiftly off the right hand side. Embarassed Eek

Will do some lightish reps next week then need to decide what to do next, maybe RSR again or Ed Coan. A little disappointing not to get a single PB, but made some decent progress over the past few weeks.

Do another bench cycle but this time bench like a man and use a proper arm spacing. You are a tall guy with long arms and should be benching with index finger on rings.

Unless you have t-rex arms, you won't bench big with a narrow grip. Some may disagree with me, but I firmly believe that if you train the wider grip you will eventually surpass your bench PB.

Solid no arrow grip are you doing dips too?

No, cause he's a narrowback.
AvatarRob
Can't do dips Neil, don't have the equipment for them!

Going to try the wider grip Sam, did it tonight and the ROM is way smaller, although as its so many years since I did them they felt weaker than narrow grips, but that should resolve with a few more sessions hopefully.

25th November

Bench Press
20 x 10 x 2
40 x 10 x 2
55 x 10
65 x 10
70 x 10 x 2

Close Grip Bench
60 x 10 x 2

Face Pulls
20 x 3

First time I've benched with a normal width grip in years, put some plates under the bench which lets me unrack. Doesn't look a lot but my arms were like lead after.

Going to loosely do the Ed Coan bench routine; couple of weeks of 10s, 8s, 5s and 3s with another day where I'll bench lighter and do some sort of assistance.

You would never had the cheek to insult a Sugden admin like that in my pre-narrowback days. I've seen Olly's cross-thread banter as well, I haven't even cracked out the toothpick curls or mini-band EZ bar curls so the beach-training accusations are baseless Wink

Do you mean a 72kg barbell for 5x5? If so, impressive.

OR

Do you mean bending your knees for 5x5 with your arms in the air and nothing in them? If so, then, you've just cemented your reputation as a narrowback.
AvatarRob
The latter... although with a mini-band... 500g? Building squats in will be a very very gradual process!
