Good to see you logging here at last, Jonny. That's some seriously impressive stuff, too.

He trained Sunday (snatch grip deadlifts) and today (various), too. The man is a beast.

Monday 29/1

500m rows 1:41.5 PB, 2:01.9, 153.8.

First one was very satisfying, and I didn't quite die afterwards. I went into the second one after only five minutes' rest, and wasn't ready. 8 minutes before the third, which was better.

Wide Pulldowns 70x8, 105x6x2.

The person responsible for designing the thick, slippery handles on the Hammer back machines should be kicked in the groin once for every rep that's been compromised by their stupidity. It would take some months.

Wide Seated Rows 112x6x2.

10 minutes on the elliptical, stretching.

I seem to have stopped coughing now. I think the first couple of sprints disturbed parts of my lungs that have not really been used since I was smoking 40+ a day.

If I were Fat Pete, I might celebrate a hard-fought PB on a day not feeling so good by going to Oldham. But I am Fat Rick, so I went to Abdul's instead.

No longer on the bottom of the Sugdenite C2 list Happy.

Yeah, you should aim for that vast five second gap between Rob's and mine... Wink

There were some light squats at the start of the training section and a "heavy" single towards the end, about the same time he finally got the big clean and press (having failed it periodically through the sequence).

I enjoyed it. It's not a good movie by any means, but it's unashamedly cheesy and sentimental, and Stallone is strangely charismatic. And yeah, he's in ridiculous shape for 60.

Thanks boys.

Saturday 27

Benching a day early as I have friends in town tomorrow. There will be much feeding.

Bench 20x8, 60x5, 80x3, 100x1, 110x1, 120x1, 130xf (just) (all paused), 110x6x2. There were some really good ground-out reps here. The 130 only just missed, but miss it did.

Incline DB Press 45x4,5. Should have been 42.5s for sixes, but they're broken.

Stretch and off to watch Rocky.

Some good work from Ant, who displayed character on a bad day for his deadlifting and benched 127.5x4x3 and some work with 100, just failing a fifth on the first set.

Yup, you'll get 400. Unless, of course, you shower the gym with brain matter and skull fragments after your head explodes Happy.

Seriously, for a moment, pictures like this are one thing that put me off equipped lifting. I spent a lot of money having my eyes put *right*...

Friday

Deadlifts 60x8, 100x3, 140x2, 170x1x5. Not quite spot on, but it all went.

Rack pulls 60x2x2, 100x2, 140x2, 180x2, 200x2 PB.

Again, like last week with platforms, this was always going to be technically a PB since I've never done them before - but this is the first time I've had 200kg in my hands, so it counts, dammit.

Done in the squat rack, from a step and an old-school 15kg plate. I like these a lot.

Narrow-grip pulldowns 70x8, 105x8x2.

Assisted chins -15x3x2, then unassisted partials each held for as long as possible on the descent, four reps with roughly 30 second rests. The highest I could get these, without any body swing to help, was roughly elbows at right angles. I'm pretty sure I'll get an unassisted chin soon now.

10 minutes elliptical, 20 stretching. Happy, if sore-handed.

Good point, well made Happy.

And, let's be honest, no matter how we do it, I'm still s**te Wink.

I find the way Dan shouts "get it up!" at you very arousing. He's obviously done it often in training.

What I do is rather as recommended in Dinosaur Training - I just visualise the whole lift, from setup to completion, repeatedly. Then I do it. Fairly calm. I do talk to the bar a bit, but I don't really get excitable until *afterwards* Happy.

You can strap up mixed grip, you know. I always used to when I was using straps. Works fine.

I'd like to go back to what it was supposed to be - RAW lifts only (as the profile page does very clearly say). As far as I know nobody's ever lifted equipped in the Sugden itself, so its only right that its league be a raw league.

That's amazing progress - well done!

Wednesday 24/1

Squat Goblet 30x5, barbell 60x5, 105x5x5 (pb).

Not much of a PB since I've only just started doing 5x5s, but I was well pleased with these. Deep and solid.

DB press 20x8, 35x8x2.

Narrow seated rows 70x8, 105x8x2.

Assisted chins -15x3x3

10 minutes on the elliptical, 20 stretching.

Monday 22/1

A bit of warming up on the Concept 2, then

500m sprint rows 1:57, 1:59, 1:58.

If I can just figure out a way to breathe during these I'll be a lot better off. After the third one, my hip flexors were incredibly tight. And I was knackered.

I want, instinctively, to exhale on the drive and inhale as I return the handle; but I can't inhale properly when I'm compressing myself at the bottom of the stroke. I suspect I ought to inhale on the drive and exhale on the return, but I can't seem to make myself do that. As a result, I start to run out of air quite badly in the last thirty seconds or so.

I was trying to do these "properly", that is in the manner advocated by Concept 2 themselves, but I actually seem to be able to go faster when I do them wrong. Still, I was not terribly displeased on these.

Crosstrainer for ten slow, lactic-flushing minutes, then lots and lots of lovely stretching.
